Who qualifies for the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge?

Updated 2026-08 2 sources 1 min

The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge is a temporary programme run by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. It sits outside the standard Part D benefit and applies to medicines prescribed for chronic weight management, which Part D has historically not covered for that use.

The part that surprises people is who it leaves out. If you have type 2 diabetes, moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea, or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, you are generally outside the bridge, because standard Part D coverage already applies to those conditions. Being excluded from the bridge is not the same as having no coverage.

Eligibility runs through your plan, not through any pharmacy or telehealth service, and the details change. Read the CMS page directly, then confirm with your own Part D plan before assuming either way.
