Does the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge cover you if you have type 2 diabetes?

Updated 2026-08 2 sources 1 min

Generally no, and the reason is worth understanding rather than reading as a refusal. The bridge exists to cover a gap: medicines prescribed for chronic weight management, which standard Part D has not covered for that purpose. Where a medicine is prescribed for type 2 diabetes, Part D coverage already applies, so there is no gap for the bridge to fill.

The same logic covers the other exclusions, moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis. In each case the condition itself opens a coverage route that the bridge is not needed for.

What this means practically is that the question is not "am I in the bridge" but "which route covers me". That is a question for your plan, and the answer depends on what your prescription is written for. Confirm it with your own Part D plan rather than inferring it from a page like this one.
